Supporting the Food Service Professionals of Tomorrow

Nurturing the next generation of catering and hospitality workers is very important to CH&Co. Many students studying hospitality, tourism, or leisure courses have a placement year, giving them a chance to get a feel for the “real world” of the industry. We love to welcome these students into the CH&Co family for the year, and we are proud to say that many choose to return to us after graduation.

It is hugely rewarding to help young people hone the skills and knowledge they need for their chosen career, but we also gain a great deal from having them on board for their placement year. Placement students bring in a fresh viewpoint and unique ideas, in addition to hard work and dedication.

Molly is currently working in CH&Co’s head office, getting a taste of life in a thriving HR department, and she was happy to tell us a bit about her and her experience with us.

What are you most excited about during your placement with CH&Co?

Constantly learning. I love sharing my knowledge as much as learning new things. I love to think that I’ve helped someone understand something, and in turn they have probably helped me learn something that will help me through my career. I am also excited to start building relationships with people that will be there to help me through my career as I hope I can be for them in return.

What high street food and beverage brand or concept most interests you?

Itsu sushi. I had never even seen an Itsu before moving to London, and now I see them everywhere! There is a shop on every street, and they always have queues ending outside the door. I don’t know much about them, but I definitely want to find out more as I must be missing out on something with those queues.

What do you hope to do when you graduate?

After graduation, I hope to work with an employer who appreciates my education and understands how important my personal development is to me. I hope to remain within the hospitality sector, as I love how diverse it is.

Please share an interesting fact about yourself:

I love snow. I am already planning my next snowboarding holiday or maybe even a working season.

This year CH&Co has welcomed eight students on their placement year. In addition to Molly, Bonnie and Jessica are both now stationed at ZSL London Zoo, Grant and Alice join us at Buckingham Palace, and Emma is working at the Tower of London, Ella is supporting Lusso, and Madeline is working in the Livery Hall sector for Chester Boyd.
